Editing the last scene

Making the decision about what clip should be at the end was hard since we wanted a clip that will stay in the viewers mind. The first clip we ended it on was a close up of the spirit. However,we thought that if we saw her face too much during the trailer it would make her seem less scary.

We then decided that we should end it on the last word of our tagline “You are not unique”. But, after getting some feedback from our peers we realised that ending it on the word “unique” was confusing since  they thought that the name of our film was “You are not unique” rather than ‘Possession’ also, most of them couldn’t make a link between the different words since they were on different clips.

In the end we decided to end the trailer with the close up of the spirit. To make her look scarier we changed the colour of the clip to a slight red, we did this by colour correcting the clip using the advanced tools on iMovie. We added a red tint to the clip because it has the connotations of danger, given that she was the antagonist we thought that this colour would be appropriate. Lastly, we made the clip shorter so that it could be more shocking.

Our teacher watched our trailer and told us that the shot of the hand was scary and should be an image that stays in the viewers mind so it should be in the trailer more than once. After hearing this we added two clips of the hand to the middle and end of the trailer.

Problem while editing

We had filmed a scene with the intention of it appearing like CCTV footage on the trailer. We changed the colour of the scene while editing to make it look like CCTV footage however, we weren’t able to insert a time stamp into the corner of the shot to make it look more realistic. We watched many tutorials and tried many things  to insert this image: camera1into our trailer. This image kept on coming out as a black rectangle on our trailer. Even though we weren’t successful  we are still trying to find a way to insert the image into trailer.

Our teacher told us that the narrative wasn’t clear since we didn’t see a change in the girls character. After receiving this criticism we filmed a scene in which our actress says and writes out “You are not unique” repeatedly, which makes her friend worried. When editing this part of the trailer we took away the sound because it wasn’t clear what she was saying. We then added our own sound effect but that didn’t work either so we decided to just allow the music to play over that scene. We sped up the scene a bit to make her mouth look as if it’s moving really fast. We then cut out the bit when her friend asks her if she is ok because the sound wasn’t clear and it wasn’t really necessary to the trailer.

Our teacher told us that the stairs scene in the middle of the trailer was quite boring and didn’t fit well with the rest of the trailer. After receiving this criticism my group and I filmed another scene of our actress writing symbols down on a paper. We split up the stairs scene by adding this scene in also, we sped up this section of the trailer to make it more exciting.
